Description
Aleida Assmann is a Professor of English Literature and Literary Theory at the University of Konstanz and a leading scholar in the field of cultural memory studies. She has been visiting professor at the Universities of Princeton, Yale, and Wien. She was awarded several prizes, such as – with her husband Jan Assmann – the Balzan prize for studies on collective memory in 2017 and the Peace Prize of German Book Trade in 2018. In 2021 she was elected a corresponding fellow of the British Academy. Among her main books: Cultural Memory and Western Civilization. Arts of Memory (Cambridge 2011; ed. or. München 1999); Shadows of Trauma. Memory and the Politics of Western Identity (New York 2015; ed. or. München 2006); Sette modi di dimenticare (Bologna 2019; ed. or.
