Description
Ancient Roman historiography is more than a literary genre. It is in fact a means of memory, although it has only recently been approached as such. This new perspective contributes to illuminating significantly how the Romans conceived the past and how this conception changed with the beginning of the written narrative. The talk will address this turn that took place in the second and first centuries BC and its consequences for the Roman understanding of their past.
